Female Embrace

Thank you Frida this image captured my words
here they are, released to you.

Always feels like I’m the last one
to get home on our block.
Our street quiet as I
limp like an ese my heavy
work bag slung over my left shoulder
loafers pinching my baby toes.
My dogs are barkin’ from the long day.
A few more steps, they will soon breath.

A coyote sees me and gets scared
it runs then freezes in its tracks.
I don’t stop. I walk faster pretend I don’t care
that he’s there, “you got your business
and I got mine,” I step it up but baby toes
don’t allow me to push it too much.
The neighborhood dogs hear my hurried steps
and fill the silence with barks.

I pass the neighbor’s house the
one that drives an exterminator van
with the sticker that reads “que quieres
pinche rata!” stuck on the back windows.
I scared another one of the night’s inhabitants
a mom and pup skunk duo.
I scurry to the middle of the street
where all the light posts spill their shine.
Smart move, two houses from “pinche rata” neighbor’s house,
where One-eyed Maggy the calico lives
I see a raccoon hurry up a tree.
“Uh, uh,uh I see you, you’re not jumping on me.”

Finally our gate
the little bell on the string
announces my arrival
and I hear our pups stir up into
a frenzy. They’re so happy to hear
my footsteps get closer, they’re cries get louder
and more desperate as I struggle with my key.
As soon as they see me they jump on their hind legs,
barking and twirling around like something out of
“The Nutcracker”.  I get on their level hug them, rub
and kiss and their little heads. Isis, the Siamese
wants to get in on the love and begins to rub her scent
on me then she twirls and twirls on her back
like some break dancer showing me her belly.

You stand there smiling
on and the animals feast on my caricias.
My day is not complete
without you draped in my arms.
I move in on you, grab you into me and we’re stuck
like magnates. Your head on my shoulder your sighs and
comforting noises delivered in my ear. Our bodies pressed
together smells like pressed cotton. Tight in our embrace
I feel your ovarian vibes reaching out to me
it feels like a cat’s purr atop of my belly but
it's really our ovaries. Poor female anatomy, often compared to a cows head
but is really a body, celestial head floating with
its hands outstretched, as if in a hug, ready to receive to welcome home.
I feel the vibes, re energized.

A Poem for a Poet

R.I.P Tupac
You've heard about that
Rose, she slipped through the cracks
in the cement? That Rose
cracks me up, ignoring
“the facts” and making her own destiny
she didn’t take it, she pushed back
pushed so hard with her heart, her lungs breathing life,
with her dreams.
Influencing Poppies and shit. Cause they do it too
push their way through
past the rough ages
ignoring the rubbish
and everything surrounding
that’s not nurturing.
That Rose that grew from
concrete, who knew she’d

mean so much to so many.

#TBT

TB used to mean tuberculosis now
it's a different social thing that's caught on.
Trending our past is trending
a coming out with our past
sharing a time that was.
This TB Thursday is about a place
I went to vent and disconnect
and realized how much life the world is filled with. Recognized other non-human lives that I'm affecting on a daily but not connecting to.
Throw back, I'll go back and keep coming back to this space that heals me so.
The sea is alive
I feel it so, when it gets sick I we get sick...like TB you get it.

I go there and carry my past with me
this time my favorite hoodie
reppin’ CPT and oh yes, a Bruins
blue cap.
And also carry my yesterday
it's so much better not being angry
I say this looking at the waves roiling
over one another.
Can't let my feelings be in a drought
Negative- can't be in the red.
It feels so good letting go
the way the waves reach desperately
for the shore then let it go so fast
reminds me of a smoke screen.

Go back to this place to see the lessons
in life I'm supposed to know.
I see how even the sun above
makes a giant mirror out of her, the sea reflects.
Seagulls in packs plunge at the silver surface
hit the water with such force, at least

it sounds like it when their beak slices through the waves, like splitting the defense and getting right up to the bowl and grab their silver fish.

April Showers

April showers
bring May chiles
to last till agosto.
Chile
fruit of the goddess
fruit for the hociconas
gapping mouths
fire breathing women.
Only goddesses swallow
you Chile,
fire for the soul
stir up the parables
that steam up their throat
regurgitating the past
tristes recuerdos
sudor en la frente
un nudo en la garganta
Pero
Bien agusto me como
mis cenas mi boca
enchilada pero asĂ
bien empicada a los chiles
de Don Edward.
“Granpo,” or “Popo”
same thing
he was the same thing
love to his nietos.
Dichosos son los que
disfrutan el fruto
del amor que nace
envuelto en esos chiles
de su planta que
a Sarita le heredo.
Es mi angelita
guardia de mi corazĂłn
mi dulce compañía
ahora y en la hora de nuestra
primavera, otoño, invierno
largas noches de verano.
For all seasons.

3rd and Main (newer version)

He was never more right "Government IS the problem".

Right across the street
from the back side of the Ronald
Reagan State Building,
people are sprawled out, hungry
cold, tired, pale around the edges
an imagine struggling to be seen.
The entrance to the building
is on Spring Street,
around the corner
where, like the street’s name,
everyone has it in their step.
You can see it, they walk
fast, the way people who
have somewhere to go
walk fast.
On Main, the side where the entrance
isn’t early pedestrians
scramble too
to get to…get away.
“Get away, shoo”
They shoo away
panhandler’s pleadings with a turn of the head
tune them out with a blast of their car stereo
hoping the radio waves will push them away.

In the shadows of the Ronald Reagan
“the great communicator” State Building
people shake and shiver in the streets
flag their hunger, frustration,
sickness in proximity of governmental grandeur.
Is it the early morning chill licking their scaly skin?
Do they shake and shiver for a fix?
Or from the ghosts of past wars that harass
them? They scream at and argue with those voices to no end.
They didn’t fight in wars that Reagan orchestrated.
His M.O.
have nations kills their own. Daddy Reagan provided
financial and military aid
to right wing governments in
El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala.
Funding his campaign to eradicate “communism”
en esas tierras with arms-for-hostages deal
he made with Iran. All part of a greater plan
to down the indigenous, down the students
down labor, push down all uprisings
crush them down till their eyes
grew streams of red
and heart of resistance crumbled.
He put them out
those hearts On fire.
Like steel blades against a ledge
Shits went off.
Services, mental health,
preschool, arts program, benefits for the vets
sharply cut, messy
murder scene, a crime the way
the government disregards people.
They, the people on skid row could just be seeing red like late notices
piled up on the dinning room table
Is it going to take
a crime to get out of this one? Here we like to call it a hustle
Gotta stop the shivering in front of the back entrance
to that building, Ronal Reagan once again
with the cold shoulder.

Kitty-corner from
La Costeña Bar with it’s
all black matte walls, red trim,
plywood palm trees leaning towards
each other, people-
the people, shake and shiver
gathered underneath an elm tree, slap hands
in the middle of a traffic meridian
smoke on butts, sip out of steamy cups.
What a sight
Cardboard boxes piled up to build
a fortress big enough to make a
kid’s eyes and imagination go wild,
but homelessness is no child’s play
and although it never rains in Southern Cali
44 degrees at 4 o’clock in the morning
don’t play.
Skid row-
an image wavering
on the fringes of revitalization…just missed it
out of sight, always out of mind.
Like a head in the clouds, or condos
that scrape the LA skyline giving inhabitants
the feel that they’ve risen above it all.

A woman leans against a fence, sits
on her concrete throne
tugs at a wrinkled not so hefty trash bag,
stretches the edges
till they turn gray
pulling for an extra inch of shelter.
You think she’s a displaced “welfare queen”
fantasizing about the days
when she had 3 Cadi’s in the garage?
Now the only cruising she does is outside
the shelter around soup kitchen time.

Welfare queen
Her glamour draws you in
see how she was living
paycheck to paycheck
trying  to stretch that dollar
like a Hefty bag- but she already
knows that she just can’t cover it all.
She's living off of uncle
SAMs handouts they tell you
just a distraction away from the tax cuts
Uncle Sam is giving his
Richie friends
Exxon, JPMorgan, Chase and them
And any other WASP
Who's dignity
and pride in doing work
merits a little reward
"Don't worry we'll throw down
some crumbs
as we cut programs
That's that trickle down theory on y'all asses
Hope and IOUs control the masses!"
Stop the Symbolic violence
Where is good ole Uncle Sam now?
He’s not going to bail her out
too much government is a problem
remember. Remember that as they
bail out, Wall Street, Banks of America and Autos.
