Wild Heart

for Kimmy

One woman Mardi Gras
Laughter, her theme music
swells in her chest
a high tide
showers, refreshes the festivity.
Delights in her desirability
flaunts flesh
in heals, v-cuts
in mesh, only to
smash hopes. Downing spirits
lifts her spirits.
quiets demure brown girl
stereotypes. Likes to smash.

She’s a thinker
demeanor unfettered
opens up her mouth
and paints the sky
real, truths rumble
off her tongue, THUNDER
bounces off clouds
hits you in the eye
leaves you seeing different.

A warrior
heart on her sleeve
a crest for the loves
she bore. Fighters!
traversing lands
heads high,
backs straight like braces.
Her lessons roadmaps
in their pockets
guiding them off the beaten path
unafraid  of the wild things
for her love, a shield
traverses plains,
her heart is wild.
